More Than Just a Training Day: Why a One-Stop Shop for People Development Actually Works

Updated: Aug 13

If you’re leading an SME, you’ve probably felt that familiar tension - you’ve got a great strategy, a solid product, and a team of brilliant individuals, but somehow things still feel a bit "sticky."
Maybe communication isn't quite flowing or perhaps you’ve noticed that when the team is under stress or pressure, the cracks start to show. Whether your workforce is spread across the UK or huddled in one office, the human element is always the most complex part of the machine.
At Pebble People Development, we spend our time helping CEOs, Founders, Senior Leaders, and L&D teams figure out exactly how to unstick those wheels. We aren't just here to tick a box - we act as a national one-stop shop to help you get the best out of your people. One of the most powerful tools in our kit for this is Insights Discovery…
What is Insights Discovery?
Insights Discovery is a world-leading psychometric tool based on the psychology of Carl Jung. It’s designed to help people understand themselves and others, making the most of the relationships they have in the workplace.
At its core, it uses a simple and memorable four-colour model to represent different behavioural preferences. We already have all four colours within us, but we each have a unique mix that determines how we show up at work:
Fiery Red: People who lead with this energy are often bold, decisive, and focused on results.
Sunshine Yellow: Those who lead with this energy tend to be enthusiastic, sociable, and highly persuasive.
Earth Green: This energy is all about being encouraging, patient, and valuing harmony.
Cool Blue: People who lead with this energy are typically precise, deliberate, and analytical.
How it Works
The journey starts with a simple (and quick) online evaluator. From this, each team member receives a highly personalised Insights Discovery Profile. This isn't just a basic report - it is an incredibly in-depth, comprehensive analysis. It explores everything from their unique strengths and distinct communication styles to their decision-making preferences and blind spots, ensuring everyone truly appreciates the depth of the data.
We then bring these profiles to life by facilitating fully interactive workshops. We help the team understand perception, preferences, and the core colour energies, before having everyone map themselves on our 9ft fabric Insights Discovery Wheel Mat. This provides a clear, visual snapshot of where the team’s collective strengths lie, where gaps might need exploring, and how it truly feels to work together with opposite energies.
Why Look Outside for Help?
It’s tempting to try and handle development in-house. But when you bring in external Licensed Practitioners, you aren't just outsourcing training - you’re bringing in a fresh pair of eyes for some serious culture work. Our facilitators have been there and done it themselves; we aren't just trainers, we are ex-senior leaders who understand the real-world complexities of running teams and driving growth.
Being experienced practition- ers means we get to know you. We don't just parachute in and out; we look at your specific challenges and help with the strategising part too. We provide a neutral space where people feel they can be honest without any office politics getting in the way, and because we work nationally, we also bring a broad perspective of what’s working in other sectors, helping you to stay ahead of the curve.

From Theory to Results: Solving the Real-World People Puzzles
Understanding your colour mix is a fantastic starting point, but the real magic happens when we apply this framework to the commercial challenges you face every day. Insights Discovery isn't just a nice-to-have workshop; it is a strategic tool that directly impacts your bottom line by addressing the three pillars of a healthy business: Retention, Trust, and Resilience.
Tackling the "Attrition" Elephant in the Room
Let's talk about attrition. Replacing staff is exhausting and expensive. In the current market, the cost of losing a key team member goes far beyond their salary - it’s the lost knowledge, the recruitment fees, and the dip in team morale.
To truly reduce attrition, you have to look at the environment you’re creating. Usually, people don't leave because they hate the work; they leave because of how it feels to work there. They leave because they feel misunderstood or like they have to mask their true personality to fit in.
By investing in Insights Discovery (whether that be stand-alone profiles or workshops too), you show your team that you’re invested in them as individuals. For example, when a leader understands that an employee leads with Earth Green energy and needs a supportive, harmonious environment to do their best work, they can adapt their management style accordingly. When people feel seen, valued, and understood for their unique colour mix, they stay.
Redefining Trust and Psychological Safety
We hear the word "trust" all the time, but what does trust mean in the team when things are tough? It isn’t just about liking your colleagues; it’s about psychological safety.
Psychological safety is the foundation of innovation. It’s the feeling that you can ask a question, admit a mistake, or challenge an idea without being shut down. Insights Discovery provides the safe language to make this possible.
For example, if a colleague who uses introversion needs time to process a proposal, the team (using their Insights knowledge) knows they aren't being difficult or slow - they are leaning into their Cool Blue energy to ensure the result is accurate. Similarly, when a team understands that a colleague who leads with Sunshine Yellow is brainstorming to find a creative solution rather than trying to distract from the task, trust grows. We stop making negative assumptions and start understanding preferences, which allows for much more fluid problem solving.
Handling the Heat: Resilience Under Stress or Pressure
We all have a work self that shows up when things are calm and the coffee is flowing. But what happens when we are stressed or under pressure?
That’s when our preferences can go into overdrive and our blind spots become apparent:
Someone who usually leads with Earth Green might become silent and withdrawn when pushed too hard.
Someone who leads with Fiery Red might become a little too blunt, impatient, or demanding.
A Cool Blue lead might become overly critical.
Whilst a Sunshine Yellow leader might become frantic or disorganised.
In our workshops, we don't just celebrate the strengths, we explore these high-pressure moments. We give your team the tools to recognise the stress signals in themselves and their colleagues. This allows the team to support one another rather than clashing, ensuring that the culture remains intact even when the workload is at its heaviest
