Overview
A major pharmaceutical organisation approached us with a significant challenge. They needed to meaningfully engage 500 employees, including a large number of new starters, in a way that encouraged connection, creativity, and a shared understanding of their cultural direction.
The organisation was entering the next stage of its transformation and wanted to create an experience that demonstrated what an empowered, inclusive, and collaborative environment truly feels like.
The Challenge
The organisation wanted an experience that would:
Bring people together quickly
Ensure every attendee had a voice
Encourage open and creative thinking
Turn their empowerment strategy into something practical and visible
Deliver a memorable, high energy moment at conference scale
A standard conference session would not achieve this.

Our Solution:
We designed and facilitated a large scale LEGO® Serious Play® session for all 500 participants. This methodology allows people to think with their hands, explore ideas visually, and participate on an equal footing. It naturally encourages creativity, deep thinking, and meaningful conversation.
The Build Challenge
All 500 participants were invited to respond to one core question:
“Build a model that clearly illustrates how our organisation will look and feel by 2026 if we have been successful in making empowerment work.”
This challenge enabled participants to turn strategic aims into physical metaphor and to express what empowerment meant to them in a clear and engaging way.
How the Experience Worked Participants moved through a structured and engaging process:
Individual model building
Paired sharing and discussion
Small group integration
Room wide discovery of themes
Even with 500 people, the room felt connected and focused.
A Digital Layer of Shared Insight
To ensure every voice was captured, the organisation used an internal app that allowed each participant to upload photos of their models along with written descriptions. This meant all 500 models could be seen by everyone at the event, creating an extraordinary digital gallery of ideas and perspectives. Leadership gained a rich source of qualitative cultural insight, and participants could explore one another’s thinking in real time.
What Emerged Across the room, strong themes appeared repeatedly:
Collaboration, unity, and connection
Growth, opportunity, and development
Openness, agility, and bold ideas
A sense of belonging and team spirit
Strong foundations and shared purpose
Impact
Every participant engaged fully
New starters connected instantly with colleagues across the organisation
Leadership gained powerful insights into how people understand empowerment
A shared vision for the future was created through storytelling, building and reflection
The experience became an anchor point for the organisation’s ongoing cultural journey
Outcome
This LEGO Serious Play experience transformed the conference into a moment of co creation and cultural clarity. Participants did not just hear about empowerment. They built it, explored it, and defined it together.
